Vocal Fold Sulcus/Sulcus Vocalis
Vocal Fold Sulcus/Sulcus Vocalis.
A vocal fold sulcus (Figure 4-10) is a spe- cial form of vocal fold scarring that forms a ridge or furrow that runs along the superficial layer of the lamina pro- pria, causing the vocal fold edge to appear bowed and resulting in a char- acteristic spindle-shaped gap.
Voice quality changes with a vocal fold sulcus may range from mild to severe dysphonia, depending on the extent of the defect into the lamina propria.
